Hindu Arabic Number System

The Hindu-Arabic Number system originated in India, during the Gupta Period. (Once again my friends.) Zero is merely a dot, whereas 3 is a collection of complicated scribbles that is quite enjoyable to look at. Of course, it is a line upwards and 2 little scallopy things, but it takes up much more space than the zero. Yet, zero is a most interesting dot/small diamond, it was used more as a placeĀ  holder than as a number.

The Hindu Arabic Numeral System’s symbols are referred to as “glyphs”. Below are the glyphs for the different numbers and languages. The glyph list to look at is the Arabic-Indic. It is a positional decimal numeral system which was evolved By Indian Mathematicians.Originally there were only nine glyphs, until zero was added.

Wow! It would be fun to use one of the calligraphy pens and try to write these. They really ARE pretty to look at.

Whoa! The Tamil symbols are so pretty and elegant-looking. I bet they were hard to write, though.
